Understanding Exposure and Access, Content, the Sexual Effects and more can help you understand the issue of pornography and overcome it yourself and help your loved ones do the same.
Pornography has changed and more importantly is changing us. Constantly we are seeing more and more sexual abuse and pornography addiction in the news. Pornography effects all, especially the young. Over the next few weeks we will be doing a series of blogs talking about how pornography has changed and how it is changing our lives.
The amount of time, young kids spend on mobile devices has tripled since 2013. This is concerning for most parents and youth counselors. Pornography is constantly available. The intimidating thing for me as a parent is knowing how in “everyday media” kids are being exposed and groomed for pornography use.We as parents cannot sit silent. We must be educated and teach our children proper values and attitudes towards sex, pornography and relationships.
Through education about the issue of pornography you will increase your ability to help yourself and others.
Over the next few weeks we will talk about multiple ways that pornography has changed. This increase of information will help you know how to protect yourself and those you love.
Exposure and Access: The internet has changed every individual’s ability to access information. This is particularly true with pornography. Even within the “safety” of movies and television sexually charged images are more common. Children now only have to click the highlighted box saying they are eighteen to access pornography. In this blog we will talk about statistics for how exposure and access have changed, what parents can do to help their children, and what the future looks like.
Content: Pornography clips have been cut in length by almost 600% .Getting cut from these clips are the stories. Pornography now is straight to penetration sex, with less and less character build up. Pornography typically is only about the physical sensations of an individual, no longer including an emotional connection. Individuals rarely finish these clips which lead them to more and more explicit contents as they watch multiple videos. Sex as a means of connecting to another human has been traded in for sex as a way to get your own physical pleasure.
Sexual Effects and Frequency: “Your perception becomes your reality.” Those who watch pornography typically watch between 5-10 times a week. This frequency is heightened when individuals watch 5 clips each use. There seems to be an endless supply of novelty within internet porn. Pornography is having such a big influence on young people that we are seeing a new phenomenon called Pornography Induced Erectile Dysfunction (PIED). This is occurring to young men because their expectations are way beyond the reality of sex. Their perception of what sex is has retaught their brain that sex is with a screen.
Female Usage and VR: As pornography continues to change companies have made a significant effort to appeal to women. They have targeted younger women with apps that allow an individual to feel emotionally part of the story. This emotional hook leads to all types of pornography from interactive chat, to consuming video pornographers. The newest development in the pornography business mirrors the growth of VR and Social media. As video games become more realistic individuals struggle to separate pornographic video games from reality.
Through this series we intend to arm parents and leaders with an awareness of what is going on in the world around them. Through education we will increase our ability to help others and teach our own values. Each week we will include things we have seen parents and leaders do to teach values and overcome each change within the pornography community. Be honest about the issue of pornography, you can do so much to help those you love and yourself.
